CircularLCA
Circular life cycle assessment based on structured BIM data
CircularLCA is a software solution for conducting life cycle assessments (LCA) and creating digital building resource passports based on BIM and building component data. The application enables materials, components and design alternatives to be systematically analysed and assessed in terms of environmental impacts, CO₂ emissions and circularity throughout the entire building life cycle.
The information relevant to life cycle assessment is derived from the BIM model and evaluated in CircularLCA. This makes sustainability indicators transparent from the early design stages and enables informed comparisons of design alternatives, providing a basis for data-driven decisions in the design process.
Integration into existing BIM workflows
CircularLCA supports the preparation of life cycle assessment documentation and reports in accordance with established national and European frameworks, including DGNB, QNG, BNB, Level(s) and EU Taxonomy criteria. The software also enables the structured creation and export of digital building resource passports.
Combined with auxalia Revit ParameterTool, it creates an end-to-end, model-based workflow: ParameterTool ensures consistently structured Revit models, unambiguous classification of building components and enrichment with the required attributes. On this basis, the data can be processed efficiently and traceably in CircularLCA, without manual rework or breaks in the digital workflow.
How you benefit from CircularLCA
Using CircularLCA in combination with auxalia Revit ParameterTool offers designers, consultants and building owners measurable benefits throughout the BIM and sustainability process.
Early decision-making: Sustainability indicators such as CO₂ emissions, environmental impacts and circularity are evaluated from the early design stages using structured model data.
Efficient comparison of design alternatives: Design alternatives can be compared systematically and assessed in terms of their environmental impacts.
Reduced manual effort: Automated data transfers from the BIM model minimise manual rework, breaks in the digital workflow and sources of error.
High data quality and traceability: Clearly defined parameters and consistent model structures provide reliable, reproducible results for life cycle assessment and resource analysis.
Transparency for ESG and sustainability strategies: Results can be documented transparently and used for reports, supporting documentation and decision-making processes.
Reliable representation of regulatory requirements: Support for relevant national and European assessment and certification systems such as DGNB, QNG, BNB, Level(s) and the EU Taxonomy.
End-to-end BIM-based workflow: Sustainability assessments become an integral part of the design process rather than a separate service carried out afterwards.
How Revit ParameterTool and CircularLCA work together
auxalia Revit ParameterTool provides the methodological foundation for the structured preparation of BIM data. Building components are classified unambiguously, quantity and material logic is represented consistently, and relevant parameters for sustainability assessments are standardised within the model.
Life cycle assessment in CircularLCA is based on this structured model information. Data derived from the BIM model is evaluated throughout the entire building life cycle in terms of environmental impacts, CO₂ emissions and circularity. Comparisons of design alternatives and the preparation of life cycle assessment and sustainability documentation are traceable and compliant with the relevant requirements.
The combination of both tools enables an end-to-end BIM-based workflow in which data quality and technical assessment remain clearly separated while working together. Sustainability assessments are integrated into the design process consistently and reproducibly, without subsequent manual data preparation.
